Here are some pictures and video of the boat I have been working on in my spare time. Right side up ones will follow soon.

It was just primed yeasterday and in these photos i just finnished gluing up the skeg keel.

Where have I been

OK so. Its has been a long while since a good ol blog update. A lot has gone down. There is too much, so, I will sum up!

Launched the boat in May of 2010 great succes.

Moved to Maine to attend landing school and built a lovely Acorn skiff designed by Iain Oughtred see pics

And, while I have been toiling away up here I got started on a new personal project I am calling the BIG dIRTY! It is based on a design idea that Pete Culler discussed in an old magazine article about how to build a quick and dirty powerboat. I ran with the idea and made my own design around a sweet old lawn mower engine that I already had. So check the pics and vids, and I will try to make it less than 14 months between now and my next post.

Steering Healm

Ah yes. the steering gear bought for short monies on good old e-bay
Here we have some fine joinery
Sitting tall and proud the new console will allow me to control the boat and see over the bow at the same time. Such luxury!
Again
This seat will be notched to accept the console and will give me more space to move about behind it.

Aug 25th 2009 Boat leaves garage!

Well here we see her form the second floor porch. The trailer looked a lot bigger when there was no boat on it!
Oh! so gracefull.
It will look even better with that outboard on the back.

This picture looks a lot nicer the right way up.

Overhaulin'

Yeah the green was making me feel ill, so we have a new look.

HOly CrAp! - Progress

Sometime in the last couple weeks I actually did some work.

The inside of the boat is all painted like.

I cut off the excess on the top of the stem, so pretty now. (holy shit. cornhole!)

What do you think of the interior paint color? Soothing right? WEST MARINE calls it Sand.

Here is the forward thwart, after careful snooping at the Depot I actually found some agreeable pieces of wood.

It just looks so...

Cleats

I get tired of sanding fast, so, a couple of nights ago I decided to make some oak cleats for the ship. I stole the design from a copy of woodenBoat that had dimentions for cleats ranging from about 5 to 10 in. The plans call for 6" bronze cleats, I want wood so I beefed them up. I thought 8" would look chunky and 7" too small so I customized to 7.5" What ya think?

I have to say they look pretty sweet.

After I cut blocks to the hight and length of the cleat, they looked mighty short. But, once shaped, they look mighty sexy!

Looking like a real boat

OOh yeah. Breasthook installed. I just want to motor boat that ish!

FRAMES - Instaled!
Quarter Knees - Instaled.

Transom - Notched out for the Outboard. Word!

She is looking so sweet. Look for some painting in the near future. I can smell the sweet fish guts already.

6/18/09 - On Tuesday I spent some time on sanding and filling minor imperfections in the hull. That is some tedious work. I took all of the frames and the seat rails out of the boat. I jacked up and set up my router table (ghetto), and put a chamfer around all of the frames. I marked out the location for the seat rails and left square edges on that part so it receives the seat rail firmly. This should add a nice bit of detail to the inside of the ship.

Also, while I had everything out of the boat I put the finishing touches on the breasthook and the quarter knees. Shout out to Marky Heron for letting me use his shop to clean up my gnarly band sawyering.

regroup

6/7/09 - I spent almost the whole day working on the boat. I finnaly fitted and attached all of the frames (dry), and cut the seat rails. For the rails I used this wonky 2x6 that I found at home cheap-o and used its warp to my advantage. I ripped it in half and beveld it to recive the seats (or thwarts if you will). After a bit of bending and shoving, I got it all to go together pretty well. How hot dose she look now?

So last weekend I really got back into it and kicked a bit off ass in the shop. Saturday; did some cleanup and made this sweet little bugger. It was real easy to put together and now the tablesaw glides around like its on a buttered floor. So Sweet.

Whats the hold up?

So, I have been off my game for the past 6 weeks or so 'cause I tried to cut my thumb off. Check out the grusome awesomeness. We see it at 2 days after injury (the really red pic) and again at 1 month.
