I get tired of sanding fast, so, a couple of nights ago I decided to make some oak cleats for the ship. I stole the design from a copy of woodenBoat that had dimentions for cleats ranging from about 5 to 10 in. The plans call for 6" bronze cleats, I want wood so I beefed them up. I thought 8" would look chunky and 7" too small so I customized to 7.5" What ya think?

I have to say they look pretty sweet.

After I cut blocks to the hight and length of the cleat, they looked mighty short. But, once shaped, they look mighty sexy!
